One student, Darcie Thomas, 17 from Rhyl took her GCSE resits at The City of Liverpool College having previously taken them in school and has achieved an overall grade of 8 in English Language which is above her required grade 7. In addition to this Darcie also achieved a double merit in BTEC Performing Arts.
Darcie said:
“When I took my GCSEs for the first time, I was suffering with my mental health and the school environment only increased my anxiety. Feeling like I was being forced to learn was incredibly detrimental and as a result I didn’t get the grades I needed.
“As soon as I started at the college I knew that it was a better environment for me, despite having to travel from Wales. I was able to be far more independent and study on my own terms. Everyone learns differently and for me, the college environment really worked. My tutors have been so supportive throughout my time here and I owe a huge amount to them for pushing me and giving me the motivation I needed to succeed.
“Now that I have the grades I was hoping for, I plan to take my A Levels and go from there – who knows what the future holds!”

This year’s GCSE results success follows on from The City of Liverpool College being the first in the world to launch a course in the business of Esport earlier this year.
