In a major step forward in the Causeway campaign to prevent suicide in the construction industry, the leader of Halton Cllr Mike Wharton, and the authority’s chief executive, Stephen Young, attended a special breakfast event in London last week, to confirm that support.
The mental health ambassador for Causeway, Trevor Steven, welcomed the Merseyside council’s commitment, and update the event on the progress the campaign had made across the country over the past twelve months.
Trevor said; “We have won support from mayors Andy Burnham (Manchester) and Steve Rotheram (Liverpool); from chief executives such as Tim Johnson (Wolverhampton) and Pam Smith (Newcastle), and council leaders including Bev Craig (Manchester) and, of course, Mike at Halton.
Lancashire County Council, one of the biggest authorities in the country, are also backing our campaign, and a number of parliamentarians are backing us too.
“Our series of events with Downtown in Business has enabled us to engage directly with leaders and decision makers from across the country, and I am delighted at the response we have had.”
