This year marks 25 years since Sutcliffe established its base in Manchester. Recent client wins highlight Sutcliffe’s expertise and dedication to improving the community and quality of life for residents across Manchester as it delivers geotechnical environmental investigations and civil and structural engineering on a variety of social housing schemes including Grey Mare Lane in Beswick for One Manchester Housing Association. Grey Mare Lane is a new neighbourhood delivered as part of Manchester City Council’s masterplan to focus on the needs of both current and new residents, providing a solid foundation for future growth.

Marked as a groundbreaking council-led scheme, Sutcliffe is integral in the development of 417 new council and community-based homes forming Salford’s largest council housing scheme for 50 years. Longshaw Drive consists of 177 Passivhaus homes that will be built to high energy efficiency, space and sustainability standards.
Besides many affordable housing projects in the pipeline across Manchester, Sutcliffe has been instrumental in enhancing healthcare infrastructure through the refurbishment and new build of multiple hospitals and extra care facilities. Sutcliffe has recently been appointed to provide geotechnical, civil and structural engineering designs on an extension at Wythenshawe Hospital to extend the existing Medicines Evaluation Unit.
To reduce waiting times, improve diagnosis and increase care capacity across the Wigan borough, Sutcliffe is working with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a project at Leigh Infirmary, which consists of a new-build extension involving building a four-storey steel framed extension to the hospital’s Grade II listed façade.
Later this year, Sutcliffe will begin work on an innovative scheme at the University of Salford’s Peel Park Campus, creating a low-carbon flagship building for the new Greater Manchester Institute of Technology, placing emphasis on sustainability and technology in support of the wider campus strategy to be net zero by 2038.
