Phase five of the works which begins on Monday, 15 February will involve several sub-stages to upgrade a section of Fylde Road while keeping the area open to all through traffic and pedestrians.
Initial work will affect the northbound section of footpath and carriageway from the junction of Maudland Road to the bus stop outside the University’s Computing and Technology building. Pedestrians may have to follow short diversion routes while works are taking place and these will be clearly signposted.
Adelphi Street is set to reopen during April while it’s estimated all highways work will be completed by September 2021.
UCLan’s Michael Ahern, Chief Information and Infrastructure Officer, said: “During this final phase of our highways project the University section of Fylde Road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place. We would therefore urge all road users to allow a little extra time to complete their journeys, especially at peak times.
“We are now on the final straight and once again I would like to thank the public for their co-operation during this major project to upgrade the highway around our new Student Centre and Square while providing a welcoming new gateway into the city.”
Balfour Beatty Operations Manager Graeme Moffat added: “Despite the inclement weather we have been experiencing, works are progressing at pace with our expert team already on site at Maudland Road, four months ahead of schedule, in a bid to minimise disruption for the travelling public and local businesses.
“I would like to thank the public for their ongoing co-operation and continued patience while we complete this essential upgrade project.”
The University would like to remind motorists that at weekends UCLan car parks are available and free for general public use.
