Neil Fairlamb has been announced as the new\u00a0Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods at Manchester City Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neil takes on the role following the announcement that\u00a0previous Strategic Director, Fiona Worrall, will retire later this year after 33 years at the Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neil is currently Head of Parks, Leisure, Youth and Events and will take up the Strategic Director of\u00a0Neighbourhoods\u00a0role on Wednesday 1 June.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neil has worked in Local Government for 30 years, starting his career in Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Councils \u2013 and started his first job in local Government at the age of 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He came to Manchester City Council in 2004 to lead the city’s sport legacy\u00a0programmes\u00a0following\u00a0the Commonwealth\u00a0Games and\u00a0has since worked in eight\u00a0different roles\u00a0involved in community development, sport, leisure, parks,\u00a0leisure\u00a0and events.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neil has\u00a0also been heavily involved in the Council\u2019s Civil Emergency Response work and has taken on both Trustee and Director roles in\u00a0organisations\u00a0where the Council has an active partnership, such as the National Football Museum and Manchester Active.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commenting on the news of his appointment, Neil said:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI am\u00a0honoured\u00a0to take up the role of strategic director. This is an area of the Council that I am passionate about and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0looking forward to working with our residents to improve our\u00a0neighbourhoods.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe key\u00a0component\u00a0of our jobs is to keep Manchester working properly, ensuring we have clean streets, emptied bins, and great local\u00a0facilities\u00a0in vibrant communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBut there are also challenges we must face and there are things we can do better. Reflecting the diversity of our city in our workforce and delivering services that meet the needs of our residents will be a key priority for me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cManchester is a place of brilliance, but there is always space\u00a0for growth and improvement. I\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0wait to get stuck in building on the work of Fiona Worral, whose work has had had a massive and lasting impact on our city.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Joanne Roney OBE, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council,<\/strong>\u00a0said: \u201cNeil has had an esteemed career in local Government and has been hugely influential already during his time at Manchester City Council.
