{"id":88925,"date":"2024-06-27T21:11:32","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T20:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/downtowninbusiness.com\/?p=88925"},"modified":"2024-06-27T21:14:48","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T20:14:48","slug":"northern-powerhouse-boss-talks-devolution-hs2-and-collaboration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/downtowninbusiness.com\/big-news\/2024\/06\/27\/northern-powerhouse-boss-talks-devolution-hs2-and-collaboration\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Powerhouse boss talks Devolution, HS2 and collaboration"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"88925\" class=\"elementor elementor-88925\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-41f7c9b3 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"41f7c9b3\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5b5d5a86\" data-id=\"5b5d5a86\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-73916f13 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"73916f13\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>On Thursday 27th June 2024, Downtown in Business hosted their latest event \u2018Cheshire and the Northern Powerhouse\u2019, at the fabulous Opera Bar and Grill in Chester.<\/p>\n\n<p>The event featured Henri Murison, Chief Executive of The Northern Powerhouse Partnership, and brought together a diverse group of business leaders and forward-thinkers from both the public and private sectors from across Chester and the wider Cheshire region.<\/p>\n\n<p>Drawing on his extensive experience with the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, Henri Murison delivered a powerful address, providing a comprehensive overview of the current trends and issues affecting the Cheshire region, focusing on opportunities for driving economic growth through regeneration, people, and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n<p>Henri explained how originally it was broadly the big 5 Northern Cities who dominated the growth agenda, but how in recent years, by promoting connectivity through transport, we are creating a labour market and making it possible for people to live in smaller towns and commute to their place of work.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cLevelling up by simply giving money to small towns doesn\u2019t work, we need to make it easier for people to access nearby cities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>Henri also pointed out that Chester and Cheshire at large, despite being thriving areas, were not doing as well as they should be, and that the upcoming election and a possible new government was an opportunity to bring attention back to the area and get the devolution deal they deserve.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThere will be a moment in time, when there will be an interest in Warrington, Chester and the wider Cheshire area, don\u2019t waste the opportunity! He explained how the Northern Powerhouse Partnership is working with both the public and private sector to try and reboot projects such as HS2 and ensure everyone working together to promote growth in the North.<\/p>\n\n<p>He underscored the need for strategic partnerships and innovative approaches to address the challenges and opportunities facing Chester and the broader North West region.<\/p>\n\n<p>His insights on investing in infrastructure as well as the importance of investing in education and skills development to help the poorest children and young people achieve better career outcomes, resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the critical role these factors play in the region&#8217;s future prosperity.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cToo many young people don\u2019t have a job or don\u2019t have the skills to get a job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>When questioned on his thoughts on the upcoming election, Henri explained that he feels one of the key issues is that \u201cWe went from a period of time where we had a consensus on things like HS2 and devolution, what\u2019s happened is we\u2019ve had a government that\u2019s given up on their end, letting central government just get on and do something often doesn\u2019t work\u201d.<\/p>\n\n<p>Henri believes that devolution can help ensure long term growth for areas since local authorities and Mayors are less likely to change their minds and go back on longer term projects than central government.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cDevolution promotes consistency \u2013 mayors don\u2019t change their minds as much, the problem is we have a government that keeps doing something then stopping or changing their mind.
